Annual programme

DiaspAfra Month

Four weeks when every part of the network is working at the same time — researchers, founders, clinicians, funders, students and the institutions that hold them together. Five host cities, one shared schedule.

The shape of it

Deliberately not a conference

Half the programme is working sessions. The other half is the part conferences genuinely do well — talks, panels, and the corridor conversations that follow them.

Week one

Opening and orientation

The opening convening sets the agenda: what the network is working on, what it needs, and who is in the room to help. Afternoon sessions split by field of practice and end with written commitments.

Week two

Clinics and surgeries

Grant-writing clinics, IP surgeries, incorporation workshops and data-deposit sessions. Bring a draft; leave with reviewer-style written feedback on it.

Week three

Labs and hospitals

Open laboratory tours, clinical site visits and placement briefings on both continents, plus the equipment and maintenance sessions that usually get skipped.

Week four

Demo, hiring and close

The venture cohort presents, employers run hiring rooms, and the month closes with a public account of what was committed in week one and what actually happened.

What we ask

Every outcome gets recorded against the people who made it

A collaboration, a placement, a term sheet — each one is attached to the Passports involved rather than summarised in a conference report nobody reads. That is what makes the month worth repeating.

  • Registration opens to Passport holders first
  • Every online session recorded and published within a week
  • Written commitments taken in week one, reviewed publicly in week four
  • Outcomes attached to people and institutions, not to a PDF
  • Fee waivers and travel support allocated by published criteria
